You can stop giving Alan phobias any time now, Boston Legal.

No, really.

ETA: OMG STILL OUTRAGED. COMMENT SO I CAN CAPSLOCK AT YOU.

I noticed that too. (Even more scary...my husband did too) We need to blitz Kelly. This needs to end...soon.

HE OWNED A GODDAMN POOL ON THE PRACTICE.

HE HAD NO PROBLEM WADING INTO WAIST-DEEP WATER WHEN FISHING WITH DENNY.

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

And they didn't even attempt to explain it this time. At least we got some backstory about the clown phobia.

Arnold needs to pass a law or something in Lalaland..that every scripted television program needs to keep a show bible from DAY ONE.

I didn't watch Buffy (I didn't own a TV for the early seasons and didn't bother in the later..) but I understand that there were very, very few continuity issues with it because Whedon was anal about those things. (In CJ they gave Jordan two different birth dates which in and of itself wouldn't have been so bad..if the original birthday hadn't've had an ENTIRE FIRST SEASON MULTI-EPISODE ARC BASED ON IT)

I always thought BL would be one of the last to fall into this problem because I assumed Kelly worked on all the scripts.

BL's usually pretty good about it--ahahaha, in season one they off-handedly mentioned Alan co-habiting with a midget at some point, and they brought it up again in season three. This just...makes NO sense (and DEK has a writing credit for the ep, too). Even if they've decided to ignore everything that happened on The Practice, one of the characters MENTIONED Alan's (erstwhile) pool on BL. And he still went fishing with Denny.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH I call bullshit. They need a redo. Alan would so not be afraid of water! It makes no sense.

Did he jump in and rescue that one chick he used to work with that he was friends with.

Sorry. I'm stoned. lol

I know! And they didn't even make a half-assed attempt to explain it.

Presumably, yeah.

And yet you still make more sense than the BL writers.

Besides you already made little Alan go swimming tons. Maybe it was Kara that made him terrified of swimming. hahaha

Well, he also swam in the ep and was horribly incompetent.

I don't even know.

AHAAHHAHAHAHAHA. Lebowski makes everything better.

I think my favorite part of the ep was this case about a woman being ripped off by this company that was supposed to deal with her mother's remains, because I was randomly reminded of "JUST BECAUSE WE'RE BEREAVED DOESN'T MEAN WE'RE SAPS!"

Ha, I love CAPSLOCK rage. I will totally enable you.

But... water? Really? Have the writers ever watched their own show? Do they suffer from some sort of memory loss, that they can't remember Alan outfishing Denny? Something that resulted in Denny shooting a fish, upsetting the guide and being put in time-out, one of my very favourite BL moments?

From: [identity profile] 3pipeproblem.livejournal.com
I DON'T KNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. IT RUINED THE WHOLE EPISODE FOR ME (not that it took much--it was one of the worst eps I've seen).

I can't...ARGH. COME ON, WRITERS. Surely you can think of ways to make Denny and Alan's storyline interesting without constantly adding to Alan's (already impressive) collection of irrational fears and mental peculiarities?

I hate when show writers rely on a crutch of some sort to inform story lines. Grey's Anatomy, which I am in no way comparing to BL in terms of awesomeness, I hasten to add before I start you off in another capslock rage, it's just that it's way guilty of this particular crime, relies on either couples getting together or couples breaking up to create story lines. And constantly doing that systematically ruins characters, makes them OOC, or just completely unlikeable. It's lazy, uncreative writing! It's impossible for me to watch without bitching out the tv now. My housemate loves it and I'm banned from the room when it's on.

Plus, Denny and Alan! They are already interesting enough!

AHAHAHA I TOO HAVE BEEN BANNED FROM WATCHING Grey's. Oh, man. Did you read the saga of me losing a bet and having to watch an episode (granted, the person I lost to was very kind and bought me a pint of Stephen Colbert ice cream to eat during the ordeal)? The episode featured AD Skinner from The X-Files with a FISH IN HIS URETHRA. It also contained the (serious OMFG) line "You are my penis fish."

But I digress.

YES. And I'm sure the writers could've thought up another reason to make them flunk the water rescue test.

From: [identity profile] fence-post.livejournal.com
(There is such a thing as Steven Colbert icecream? Truly we live in a golden age.) Ahaha, I think I missed that episode. Sadly. It does sound like a sound example of the smooth way they turn patients into inappropriate metaphors for the personal problems of the doctors. In another episode there was something about a gangrenous foot that would have to be removed representing someone's avoidance issues? I can't be sure, I was pretty busy laughing.

Oh, BL. Don't make me include you in a comment mocking Grey's Anatomy. I don't like it.

Okay, seen it now so I can comment. If you still want to CAPSLOCK, go right ahead; I can take it, 'tho that isn't even in my top three gripes about the ep. Sigh.

If you ever want to stage a coup and overthrow DEK, I think you and I would make an awesome writing team given our respective areas of focus. And I still have that drawer chest full of unsold scripts.... ;)

Oh, I'm sure I would have other complaints, except I was so ENRAGED by the LUDICROUS WATER PHOBIA that I was rendered incapable of paying attention to anything that went on. Seriously. I don't always pay close attention to storylines that don't involve Alan, but during this ep...I couldn't tell you the outcome of any of the cases. It must've been a RAGE BLACKOUT.

I dled it and...UGH. Instead of rewatching I think I'll watch the ep of TP where Alan blackmails someone and conceals evidence PRACTICALLY AT THE SAME TIME.

I'm cutting them slack because this was the last ep written before the strike. If things don't improve, though, a coup may be in order.

What are your gripes? (And do they involve GRATUITOUS HUGGING?)

Yes, although I would have put the gratuitous, pointless and INCORRECTLY PERFORMED CPR before the hugging. But my main gripe was actually the dead teenager case where NO ONE brought up the fact that part of the responsibility of having a driver's license is having the insight and maturity to know whether or not you are in condition to operate a LETHAL WEAPON and maybe people should take some @#^&@^#)# responsibility for their own decisions. Or, if we are prepared to say that high school students aren't capable of doing that and we must look for others to blame and protect them, maybe they shouldn't be RESPONSIBLE FOR POTENTIALLY LETHAL WEAPONS!

And you really don't want to start me on that in water rescue scene...I promise.

I can kiiiind of forgive the hugging, because I imagine the writer(s) were like "Hoshit! This could be the last ep of the season! We gotta end with something spectacular...how about LOTS OF HUGGING?"

(I also imagine they'd stayed up all night working on their picket signs.)

AHAHAHAHAHA. THIS IS HOW LITTLE ATTENTION I PAID. I DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS A CAR INVOLVED. I assume she died while driving? The premise of that whole case reminded me of a stupid high school debate team bill my sister had to research--it involved starting school later so kids could get more sleep.

Wow. I honestly paid attention to none of that storyline.

OMG THAT WAS PAINFUL TO WATCH.
