My law professor's sick today. I guess this means I can watch 24 during my 1 1/2 hour break. No, wait. It means I can return King Kong to the video store. I'm still wondering why the hell my professor picked that, of all movies, to watch. Although the dialogue was certainly...inspirational. "Anne...I...uh...uh...say, I think I love you." "But Jack, you hate women!"

And it's Sherman's March: A Mediation to the Possibility of Romantic Love in the South During an Era of Nuclear Weapons Proliferation today in autobiographical films, which is just brilliant (despite what [livejournal.com profile] beechball may say), but I've seen it before so I have the option of ditching the screening if need be.

Ross McElwee: I filmed, um, Dede washing her dog, and I filmed, um, Steve going to the music company where I used to work.
Ross's father: There, now. How is that going to be useful?
Ross McElwee: In this film?
Ross's father: Just in any film.

The reading of my Alan monologue (for everyone following this thrilling tale) was...amusing. I got stuck with the gum-chewing sycophant who sits next to me, so she completely...it was just bad. But funny. And the teacher said Alan had a "distinctive voice," which, well, damn straight. But he liked the original stuff, too.

That class has some great writers in it. Some of the monologues were hilarious. "Campbells, motherfucka!"

My teacher made us watch King Kong too - something about racism and how it works into the themes of the film which was very very interesting. But yeah. I don't know why anyone would remake it.

We talked about that a little in class, but it was in the context of sound, since it's film history...I have no idea why, out of all the films he could have chosen, he picked King Kong. And I kept thinking about the remake as I was watching it. I have no idea how they're going to pull it off.

Are you pre-law? Or just taking a legal class for fun?

I'm just taking legal classes for fun, although the thought of going to law school has crossed my mind.

You seem crazy.

You'd probably like it then.

*snicker* How's it been treating you?

I'm like an abusive boyfriend when it comes to law school.

Sometimes I love it, cherish it, and tell it how wonderful it is.

And then other times I want to beat the crap out of it.

Really depends on the day.

You know, I have a friend who went to law school, and she compares it to an abusive boyfriend, too.

Tell her to stop stealing my analogies, damnit. I thought I was pretty clever.

OMFG Sherman's March is so much better than Twilight Samurai! You offend me with that comparison!
