The [livejournal.com profile] yuletide reveal was today, so now I can confess to having written The Case of the Detective Who Might Not Have Been Dying But Was in Serious, Life-Threatening Danger, Believe Me (otherwise known as "The Zero Effect story"). My recipient seemed to like it and response was good, but I wish I'd had more time to spend on it. I couldn't get as nuanced with the language as I wanted and I had to keep it pretty simple (the key to Zero Effect is complicating things unnecessarily).

I got a lot of compliments on the title, which was bizarre, because usually my titles are either non-existent or a single word that has nothing to do with the story. I basically jacked this one from a Holmes--excuse me. It was a homage. Maybe I should title all my fics after Holmes stories. The next BL fic I write is going to be "A Study in..."

I suppose I should link to people clinically proven to write better than me.

Puppies and Punishments (Arrested Development)

"You're just upset because Dad never got you a dog when we were growing up," said Lindsay.

"Us," said Michael. "He never got...is this where I find out he got everyone a dog but me?"

(This isn't the) Ballad of a Gravedigger (Garden State)

Losing his cherry? Age 15, no doubt high, behind the bleachers at school (still a place he hangs out at too much). He'd do mescaline back then, not because it was cool but because he thought he'd see something in one of his hallucinations that would change his life. Never happened, but not for want of trying. The only thing the mescaline left him was a less than stellar memory of his high school years, but her name, he thinks, was Rhonda. Rhonda Masokowski, with her big tits and big mouth. If he didn't lose it to her, he really should have. Anyway, the actual event--no, he can't remember. Too bad.

I (clearly) love Mark. It's great to have a fic out there from his perspective.

And the two BL fics, both of them Alan & Denny and both of them hilarious and cute.

No Shirt, No Boobs, No Service

Jolly Roger

Oh! And the sekrit fic has since been posted on the internets. It does an excellent job of combining two of my (fairly dumb) suggestions in a way that makes perfect sense. And nobody writes Denny/Shirley like Nic.

Dream a Little Dream of Me

"That DA is an absolute nightmare. I swear it's impossible to win a case if he's there," Shirley vented.

"Who? Lewiston?"

"Yes."

"That bastard. You know, I never play nice with the other kids. When court's in recess, I promise to jump in the sandbox and knock down his castle on your behalf."

"That's not what recess means."

"I know."

"But thank you."

"You're welcome."

Ok, I'm done. Went to the worst New Year's party ever last night. Still trying to recover.

Oh, and now that I can ask without giving away my yuletide fandom--anyone have a copy of "Mystery Dance" by Elvis Costello?

I do. (I know. Try not to be all shocked or anything.)

Elvis Costello - Mystery Dance. Let me know if YSI gets cranky on you and I'll upload it somewhere else.

Thanks again for my story!

Excellent! I can't tell you how long I've been wanting a copy.

You're welcome. I'm so glad you liked it.
