serve me the sky with a big slice of lemon

Pick three numbers between 1 and 4460, and I will upload the corresponding songs from my itunes library for your enjoyment.

This is an especially good meme to participate in if you're sick of The Beatles.

I get most of my stuff via The Hype Machine (http://hypem.com/#/). It's really useful if you're looking for new bands, mashups, rare covers, etc. Not so much if you want a specific song.

Landed (with strings) - Ben Folds (http://www.box.net/shared/e7l9eaiz4r)
California Girls - The Magnetic Fields (http://www.box.net/shared/z35b8et10o)
The Ones I Want to Live - All Smiles (http://www.box.net/shared/huyzys68mi)

Thanks! I hadn't heard that Ben Folds one before! And I'm keeping Magnetic Fields too. My first thought was not my cuppa...but it grows on you.

[identity profile] 3pipeproblem.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they do grow on you. At first I liked them mainly for their lyrics (which can be pretty damn clever), but now I enjoy their sound as well.

Some of my favorites:

I Don't Believe You (http://www.box.net/shared/enm7h1qhao)
When My Boy Walks Down the Street (http://www.box.net/shared/dysbnibre3)
I Think I Need a New Heart (http://www.box.net/shared/8pvpje3bnp)

"The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side" is awesome too, but it's not in an upload-friendly format.

Oh, and I love Magnetic Fields. I just found them by accident, but "Please Stop Dancing" is awesome.

[identity profile] 3pipeproblem.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
They're awesome! I was lucky enough to be introduced to them in--I swear I'm not making this up--the Queer Cinema and Medicine course I took freshman year in college.

[identity profile] watergal.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Inquiring minds have to know:
Is that "(Queer Cinema) and Medicine" or "Queer (Cinema and Medicine)?"

Oh, and the body of water themed compilation so totally should have been mine!

(Queer Cinema) and Medicine. It was a fantastic course, even if we did have to watch this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108649/). We also watched a lot of Todd Haynes, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and a Derek Jarman movie called Blue that he made while he was losing his sight. It's just a blue screen with narration, music, and sound effects.

Hahaha, you're welcome to help yourself to it.

*blinks* Currently I am miffed at you for not telling me about the brilliance that is Sherlock, Jr. (despite my enjoyment having nothing at all to do with my initial and obvious reasons for sitting down to it). When I get over that, I'll have to pick your brain about why my Uni catalog was filled with such banal offerings as Organic Chemistry, Vertebrate Biology, and Differential Equations when it apparently could have been actually...fun!

[identity profile] 3pipeproblem.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
I like all of the bands I'm about to upload more than The Beatles. Even Audioslave. True story.

Santa Claus Is Weird - Idaho (http://www.box.net/shared/8enrqqhtpv)
Over the Hills and Far Away - Led Zeppelin (http://www.box.net/shared/29503kl6yf) It's an m4a, so in case it doesn't work, I've also included the next song in line...
Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne (http://www.box.net/shared/7qppkzlpj5)
lol 69 Like a Stone - Audioslave (http://www.box.net/shared/uhl0se62g5)
Inside of Love (live on KLOS) - Nada Surf (http://www.box.net/shared/vzb0up702g) The quality on this is terrible. I dunno why I even have it in my library.

[identity profile] 3pipeproblem.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Transatlanticism - Death Cab for Cutie (http://www.box.net/shared/r6tlq2xf5d)
Fisherman's Lament - Great Big Sea (http://www.box.net/shared/vllx9hq48c)

And bringing the ocean theme to an end...
The Latest Toughs - Okkervil River (http://www.box.net/shared/ho02geza4f)

Woo! Oh this is awesome. You made me have to open my itunes to see how many songs I had.

I blame you. :D

Hahahaha, you guys haven't even scratched the surface. I have a bunch of random Mahler, about a dozen covers of "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out," and some really strange mashups.

Terminal Frost - Pink Floyd (http://www.box.net/shared/m4asbm099v)
A Thread Cut With a Carving Knife - Stars (http://www.box.net/shared/zoma12it6s)
Crown of Love - The Arcade Fire (http://www.box.net/shared/lflpvfpa06)

Laying Down the Law - Jimmy Barnes and INXS (http://www.box.net/shared/lo7q0tojdm) This song is awful. Where did I get it? Why is it still in my library? I have no idea.
Paper Boats - Nada Surf (http://www.box.net/shared/2dqhnnvu0l) This song I ♥.
Prepared - Lambchop (http://www.box.net/shared/uporh0k3jo)

[identity profile] 3pipeproblem.livejournal.com 2009-09-19 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
1979 - Smashing Pumpkins (http://www.box.net/shared/oliq4ystlz)
Blues Run the Game (cover) - Headless Heroes (http://www.box.net/shared/ulmcmyi9f8)
The Man Comes Around - Johnny Cash (http://www.box.net/shared/y9khmxe0zs)

You have the best music taste of anyone I know online. Shit you not everyone else posts things that makes my hair stand on end. It's almost a whole month later but lets pretend it's still cool!

[identity profile] 3pipeproblem.livejournal.com 2009-10-13 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahahahaha, I don't know why, but everyone online (except you, dear FList) LOVES NICKELBACK. Just...what? Their songs are almost objectively terrible.

Although I really don't mind if someone has terrible taste in music. I mind if they have terrible/mediocre taste in music and act as if they're some kind of music guru.

Walking to Hawaii - Tom McRae (http://www.box.net/shared/ntx5z1dsu6)
Ripe (With Decay) - NIN (http://www.box.net/shared/pcza4pxa3c)
That's an m4a, so you also get Add it Up - Violent Femmes (http://www.box.net/shared/cuqlgjnj92)
Bukowski - Modest Mouse (http://www.box.net/shared/0ppfv65b3f)

I suspect you already have most of these. Sorry :(

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_redcorvette/ 2009-10-13 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I did not! Thank you.

Well put. That's the problem I think I have with people who have horrible music taste. One of my friends goes on and on about people with terrible music taste and how he's into such incredible stuff. He listens to hipster bullcrap! Anything extremely whiney or obscure. I pretty sure I could hand Vincent a play piano and he could come up with something more pleasant to listen to.
