Buddies! Pals! Help me!

I have a "creative submission" due today as part of my membership application to this literary society (I'm still marvelling at the fact that I had the guts to apply at all, believe me). Anyway, I have to do it this afternoon (as well as write a speech about Todd Haynes, to be delivered tonight. At least I <3 Todd Haynes. Unlike Sri Lanka.). So, right. My question is: any ideas as to what I should do? PLEASE! Otherwise I might just end up writing Alan Shore-ness, which probably would not endear me to the people evaluating my application. Or really bad poetry.

Ouchies. Wish I had some good ideas for you...what about writing about the process of creating or writing about a character, and how not only does the traits of the author affect the character, but the character, once created, can also affect the author?

Hell, that's crap.

Never mind. Good luck, though.
