Okay, I am taking drabble requests! Provide: a character of yours, one of mine, and a prompt (I'm good with pretty much anything--quotes, single words, scenarios--as long as it's not a music video. And as long as that single word isn't "jazz.")

You may make special requests but I reserve the right to ignore them. Also: you may receive your drabble 4 months from now.

Well, LJ, it's been so long that even the thought of catching you up on everything that's gone on is in itself kind of stressful. Suffice to say Drive was very good and I'll soon be managing a restaurant.

Onto other things: because the nearest decent library is very far away, I've amassed way, way more books than my room is designed to accommodate. SO. If you can give a good home to anything on the following list, please comment! I'll PM you for your address and send it your way. Everything's first come, first served and if you want to throw me some money for shipping I won't object, but it's not necessary.

"Hockey RPF? I could totally write that. I know who Jonathan Toews is and everything!"

(No, I did not snag--or even attempt to snag--that prompt, but this is exactly the kind of thinking that led to last year's debacle.)

Ask me about a character of your choosing, and I will pick one of the following and tell you:

(a) Three facts about them from my personal fanon.
(b) A reason they're amazing.
(c) Five things that I'd like to see happen to them.
(d) Three people that I might ship that character with and why.

Okay, so, an actual update. Let's see if I can get the hang of this again.

My computer was broken for...over two months? It's a Dell, two and a half years old now, and I sunk a lot of money into it so I wouldn't have to worry about buying another one. Well, the hard drive died and the electronics store down the street quoted me some exorbitant amount for: attempting to recover my files (success not guaranteed) and swapping out one hard drive for the other (which I can do and have done myself). By some quirk of fate I managed to recover everything except some music and videos, but my god, it took forever to fix. And then I had to buy a second copy of Vista. I have now paid for two copies of Vista. That is two more than I ever wanted.

But the bright side to the whole thing was that I got really bored and bought a Wii (also I started watching a bunch of French movies, but that's another story). I never liked sports-related video games (no, not even NBA Jam) because what you were doing with the controller had no relation to playing an actual sport, but I love my Wii. And I'm quite good at tennis, which makes no sense, because I suck at it in real life.

My brother moved out to Portland in August and I'd like to visit him, but requesting time off work has been a real pain--the girl I worked with was sick, and planning her wedding, then she was actually married and requesting time off for a honeymoon that never occurred, and now she's been fired. Or, well, taken off the schedule. I've set my sights on going home for Christmas--I have to talk it over with the front desk manager since I am now working double shifts on Fridays and Saturdays.

What else? I went and saw the National and touched Matt Berninger. I'm told my Spanish has improved and get to use high school favorites like "no me hables," "dejame en paz" and "ten cuidado" on a daily basis. I still don't own a pair of hiking boots. I saw the Blackhawks at the Pepsi Center and this group of guys was toting around a Stanley Cup they'd made out of cardboard and tinfoil (...and then the Hawks lost). It has just come to my attention that the Denver Film Festival is going on right now.

There are people who hated the last episode of Breaking Bad? Really? I don't want to point fingers, but THEY ARE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD TODAY.

In honor of the digital camera I just purchased (I was loath to buy something with the name "Coolpix" attached to it, but at $150, I'd buy a camera called Buttmunch), request a picture of something and I will post it! I do not have a lot of experience taking pictures, so the potential for hilarity is high.

Suggestions for requests:

- The first five pictures I take while trying to learn how to use the camera.
- Mountains!
- My blue suede shoes and/or my Kyle Orton jersey.
- Random directives, such as "walk a mile north and take a picture of the first green thing you see."
- The restaurant I work in!
- My stuffed Batman in the (NON-OBSCENE) location of your choosing.

I just thought up a title so good, it makes me want to write a story deserving of it.

ETA: I'm pretty sure I'll be in the last batch of pinch hits sent out (speaking of which, we've run into some trouble with Yahoogroups), so if any of you have love for Mad Men, Alan Shore, or Topher Brink, consider this advance notice. You could even combine all my requests and write about Alan and Topher being mad at each other! False alarm. Although you're still cordially invited to write me a stocking stuffer about Alan and Topher being mad at each other.

Thank you, Anonymous, for the snowflake cookie! I do believe it's my first ever virtual gift, and I shall treasure it accordingly.

I've reached the point in my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide process where I'm procrastinating by working on other writing projects, so...at least it's kind of productive? Ideally, I'd like to finish by the end of the week (er, meaning Friday)--that way I'll be free to tackle a pinch hit/Yuletide madness prompt at my leisure.

I found out that Campbell Scott's going to be on Damages this year, and despite only having seen half of the first season (which was awesome, in a Patty-Hewes-will-kill-your-dog kind of way)...I may have to start watching again. Also they've apparently hired half the cast of 24.

Dear Yuletide Writer,

Hello, and thank you so much for writing in one of my poor, neglected (okay, that doesn't really apply to Mad Men) fandoms! I'm sure I'll ♥ whatever you come up with. Hopefully you're not feeling too overwhelmed by all the details I provided--I know I went on and on, but I wanted to give you a sense of what I love about the various fandoms I asked for. If you have an idea of your own you're ready to run with, or if one of my suggestions sparked an idea, feel free to disregard this--it's not so much a set of guidelines as a list of things (some of them completely irrational) that delight me to no end.

Happy Halloween!

I have a costume but no plans. I'm still trying to persuade my brother that getting drunk and then going to a haunted house is an excellent idea.

1) Post a list of up to 20 books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/bands [fannish etc.] that you've had an obsessive fannish love or interest in at some time in your life.
2) Have your f-list guess your favourite character/member from each item. (Looking at my userinfo is cheating!)
3) When someone guesses correctly, strikethrough the item and put the name of your favorite character next to it.

1. The X-Files Weeell, first it was Krycek, then it was Mulder, and now I'm pretty sure it's Scully. So basically if you'd named anyone you would have been right.
2. Star Wars Luke Skywalker (yeah, I'm lame)
3. Mad Men Don Draper, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] polaroid_friend
4. Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Billy the Blue Ranger!
5. Boston Legal IT IS A MYSTERY
6. 30 Rock Kenneth the Page, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] bitterbyrden
7. Harsh Realm Mike Pinocchio
8. House James Wilson
9. Angel Wesley Wyndam-Pryce
10. Breaking Bad Jesse Pinkman, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] bitterbyrden
11. Twin Peaks Dale Cooper (closely followed by Albert Rosenfield)
12. 24 Tony "Either fire me or get out of my chair" Almeida. I would also have accepted Chloe.
13. Scrubs Dr. Cox, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] polaroid_friend
14. Oz Chris Keller, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] watergal
15. Homicide: Life on the Street Beau Felton
16. The West Wing Toby Ziegler
17. QI Rich Hall
18. Watchmen Dan Dreiberg
19. Heroes (I'm deeply ashamed) Noah Bennet
20. Sports Night Jeremy Goodwin

Oh, and I think my brother and I are dressing as Doakes and Dexter (respectively) for Halloween. If you suspect this evolved from a joke about me ringing someone's doorbell, saying "Trick or--" only to have my brother jump out and interrupt with "Surprise motherfucker!" you are absolutely correct.

[livejournal.com profile] yuletide nominations are open! Mine were:

Boston Legal (it went unmentioned in the brainstorming post)
Breaking Bad
RKO 281 (slightly more respectable than just nominating Orson Welles RPF)
Michael Chabon - The Mysteries of Pittsburgh (I want to read about Cleveland!)
JD Salinger - Franny and Zooey
Dan Chaon - "Big Me"

I'm confident Mad Men and all other Chabon novels will be taken care of. (That sentence kind of makes it sound like Chabon wrote a novel called Mad Men.)

For the uninitiated, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide is an annual rare-fandom fic exchange. As long as it's sufficiently rare (well, and the author isn't an enormous dick--I think a handful of fandoms are ineligible because their creators aren't down with fanfic), any fandom you can think of is fair game. Songs? Dearly departed TV shows? Epic poems? Commercials? We got 'em. I've participated every year since its inception and am continually amazed at the stuff that's written--some of it incredible, some of it cracktastic, some of it just plain wrong. If you have any microscopic fandoms you'd love to see (or have an excuse to write) fic for, I highly recommend you check it out.
