Aug. 30th, 2003 01:18 pmI'm rereading The Quiet American and resisting the urge to slash Fowler and Pyle.
Apparently (and I didn't notice this the other 2 times I read the novel, somehow) Fowler fought in WWII.
And Pyle has the line: "I'm not--odd." Pyle's rather cute, actually. It just embarasses me to claim him as a fellow countryman.
