My four day "break" begins today. I get the impression I'm one of the few people staying on campus for it. Makes me feel like Harry Potter. Shit, I just remembered my building isn't going to have water tomorrow. How irritating.

Haven't seen any new movies. I'll leave that for tomorrow.

I am developing a mad obsession with Ulysess which, while helpful for my grade, is rather frightening. I have this incredible affection for Bloom. We mainly talked about him today. He's so nice and sad and always thinking about business, which is kinda cute. Stephen I vacillate between identifying with and wanting to throttle.

In class, my prof asks these random questions about the book ("What's Bloom's job?" "What was Bloom's father's name?") and everyone's just like "Uh..." and I know the answers. It's really sad.

So, I went to see The Strokes tonight. It was good stuff. The band that opened for them totally sucked, and I kinda drifted off, but The Strokes themselves were good. Oddly enough, none of us (I went with two of my roommates and a guy from down the hall) had heard much of their music. I was rather irritated that I couldn't understand the lyrics, but I got over it. The lighting was cooooool.

Yeah. I'm suddenly really tired, so I'll be cutting this short. The concert did rock, though. And Todd Haynes' Safe is a good movie, but it scared the shit out of me. Like, more than any movie I've ever seen. Except for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. But I was seven at the time.

OMG, I <3 Alan!

"Do you even have the authority to hire people?"
"No."

I want to write fanfic. For *The Practice.* That's how much I adore him!

I just got back from Intolerable Cruelty. It was incredible! First of all, George Clooney, who I can usually take or leave, was very very good. Everyone was, in fact. And Miles...as evidenced by my Alan Shore (and Billy Flynn) obsession, I'm a sucker for cynical, arrogant lawyers. And he was literate, too!

The movie was just full of great Coen brothers moments. There's this whole scene in the beginning where a woman claims she was her husband's sex slave and that he built an "Infiltrator" out of the vacuum cleaner. She's all "I couldn't use the vacuum for a month!" While Miles is bickering with his partner in the background about why he feels so bored. It's just...wow. The movie is great. There's this whole thing with an inhaler and a gun and...go see it. Really. It's what all romantic comedies should be. They even managed to pull off Miles' big speech without getting sappy (and yes, it involves the line, "Love is good.") And George Clooney wears a kilt!

So, yeah. Go see it. I want to write fic, but the movie was so perfect I dunno if I can. It made me really happy, though.

At least I left Donnie Darko and Far From Heaven alone. For now.

You may be wondering, "Who's to blame for this mess you have the temerity to call a fic?" And the answer is [livejournal.com profile] contrelamontre. This week's challenge was a structural one, which I usually have trouble with (and accordingly don't answer). The challenge was to write two scenes with the same dialogue but different subtext. So, of course, the first thing that came to my mind was a Homicide scene and a Matchstick Men scene. Why? Because they both have characters named Frank! (Sometimes my stupidity impresses even me).

I might not even post this over on contrelamontre (although, being the review whore I am, I'll prolly give in and do it), because Homicide fans will burn me in effigy over my rape of their fandom (sheesh, people can be so touchy). And the Homicide one isn't all that slashy. Well, neither is the MM one, but it's a lot slashier than the Homicide. I mean, there's bodily contact!

These notes are longer than the fic. I am aware of this. Feel free to skip them.

So, yeah. The Homicide fic is post "Night of the Dead Living" (ep 3 of season 1, as far as I've gotten in the series). The MM fic takes place whenever. Presumably Roy is drinking because something bad happened. Or Frank took him out and got him drunk the night before. Take your pick.

I guess that's all I have to say. I suspect it took longer than the alotted hour, but does anyone really care? And I do have a fluffy, semi-humorous entry that I will post later. To appease anyone everyone this pisses off.

And yes, I am aware that my Frank/Roy is vastly superior to my Frank/Tim. Or my Frank/Tim is vastly inferior to my Frank/Roy. Whatever.
