Dec. 16th, 2006 10:45 amThe Murakami pastiche has begun. I am already discussing a woman's legs--hopefully her earlobes will follow. After that, I'll move on to cats, jazz, wells, and references to The Great Gatsby.
Speaking of which, I read Tony Takitani yesterday (imdb plot summary: "When technical illustrator Tony Takitani asks his wife to resist her all-consuming obsession for designer clothes, the consequences are tragic.") and it occurs to me that Murakami quite possibly wrote the whole story for the purpose of recreating the scene in Gatsby where Daisy cries over all the shirts.
Clearly, I have chosen the right person to imitate.
In other news, I saw History Boys, which is about a bunch of smart but obnoxious British kids attempting to get into Oxford. It involved kids with English accents reciting a great deal of poetry and making witty retorts relating to Anne of Cleaves, so yes, it appealed.
