Apr. 13th, 2008 11:06 pmWell, well, well. Where to begin? I went to a Nada Surf concert last Friday, which was excellent. I spent the first two songs wondering who the sketchy guy playing the keyboard in the corner was, and it turned out he was a member of Calexico. He did a fantastic trumpet solo later on, but I can't for the life of me remember which song it was during. And they played "Blonde on Blonde" for the encore.
And then I missed the last train home, and, after riding around on the El for awhile, taking a desperate guess as to which stop I should get off at, and walking through many a glass-strewn street (I am so not kidding), I had the pleasure of waiting outside my dad's apartment for 10-15 minutes before he finally buzzed me up.
I'm not complaining. Really. It was a good time.

Nada Surf - There Is a Light That Never Goes Out (This is one of those songs I obsessively collect covers of--the others being "Cinnamon Girl" and "Atlantic City." One day I will upload them all in an EPIC POST.)
I also read Darkmans by Nicola Barker. I'm still not entirely sure what it was about (other than how we may be through with the past but the past ain't through with us), but the characters--all of them--were fantastically drawn. It's over 800 pages and once I got past the first 20, I couldn't put it down. So, you know. If you're in the market for an 800-page book, look no further!
Also, Michael Chabon's version of Spiderman 2 has been posted online. I was decidedly underwhelmed, except when he used descriptions like "STUPIDLY HUGE BALL OF FLAME" (original capitalization preserved).
Aaand, speaking of Michael Chabon, I will be stalking him this Tuesday at Purdue (where, coincidentally, my brother attends school).
