I have a sort of love-hate relationship with Jonathan Demme. On the one hand, he directed Silence of the Lambs. On the other hand, he was partially responsible for the insult to my intellect that was Philadelphia (and I've read his interviews re: that film, and boy, are they sad). Did he remake Charade as well? Maybe he should just stick to remakes, because this one was pretty good. Although Denzel (and all of the actors, really) had a lot to do with that.
Denzel was awesome, of course. Never mind that he bites Liev Schreiber's back (bites out a chunk of flesh, that is), he was very good at conveying his Marco's (whose middle name is Ezekiel!) mounting anger and frustration over the course of the film. But then, that's why I love him. He has this great "I really don't give a fuck what you think, I am Denzel!" way of delivering lines.
The other actors were also good. I think I'm going to become a Liev Schreiber fan. After I learn how to spell his name. Meryl Streep was...freaky.
And then we had our requisite group of fandom actors: Miguel Ferrer, Mike from 24...someone else I don't remember. The title credits were entertaining to read.
Oh, the plot. Fairly suspenseful and chilling, but as the Trib's reviewer said, it was scarier in the original because it hadn't actually happened. Now this sort of government conspiracy seems possible, if not likely.
Also: the movie was much slashier than Man on Fire.
Denzel is my hero.
We got video cameras in Starbucks. Yes, I can see the need for this, but not the need for them to be connected to the internet so someone in the security hub somewhere can access any Starbucks in the region or whatever. I need a new job. I'm not even allowed to wear an untucked shirt.
Went to Caribou yesterday. They have a drink that's basically a liquid oreo. High quality. Their coffee is supposedly bad, but I don't drink coffee.
Man, I need a Denzel icon. I've almost gotten to the part in License to Kill (no, not the Bond film, although that has Jay Mohr...or maybe that's The Living Daylights) where he shows up.
