Well. Not sure I like this turn of events, despite it obviously making Alan very happy. I keep thinking of Mulder and Scully sleeping together in season 2 (not sure how that would fit into the timeline, though, what with Scully being abducted and all).
I keep trying to dismiss the scene as some sort of dream sequence. It does have a dreamlike (and almost theatrical) quality to it. However, I don't think DEK's quite sophisticated enough to pull that off.
I like the idea of Alan quitting, or attempting to quit, in the next ep. Okay. If they portray it as both a reaction to the firm, the environment there (specifcally Lewiston), and his inability to deal with his relationship with Tara, then I think it could be interesting. I was going to say I wouldn't like it if it was just sort of an "I quit" moment of protest without any thought behind it, but Alan doesn't do those. Hopefully, we'll be safe.
Again with this ep. The editing. Although I suppose it's the writing as well. While the two main storylines both pertained to adultery, there was no intersection, no indication that they were even part of the same show. And then there was the Denny-Sally thing, which...was like five minutes long. They need to hire Joss Whedon to help them balance all these characters or something.
And no Brad :( But also no title sequence. Like, seriously. Editing problems. I'm concerned that the show hasn't even found a workable format yet.
And I missed the Arrested Development premiere.

Date: 2004-11-08 04:39 pm (UTC)There was less random techno music. That's a plus. The random slow-mo scenes - not cute. The acting was, of course, wonderful - but then, that's all the show has going for it. A plot would be nice. But, meh.
I love DEK, I really do - what he did with TP was beautiful. However, he needs to grab a few people from his former staff at TP to balance things out. The episodes are too choppy and too... random, for lack of a better term.

Date: 2004-11-08 05:22 pm (UTC)I'm worried because since day one of TP's final season, there's been UST between Alan and Tara. They've been leading up to this. Then all of a sudden... um, random.
Not completely random. But a little off. He talks about how his timing with Samantha wasn't right. It looks like his timing could be off with Tara. He has the opportunity to have Samantha, but instead, enacts his fantasy... with Tara. It almost makes sense. It's like he realized the timing thing and did something about it. However, that's not very... Alan. He doesn't make the first move - certainly not one so dramatic, with Tara of all people.
Eh. I'm concerned. It has the potential to be very great and very horrible. So glad I have the running theme of "beautiful disaster" in all my 'shipper art. *laughs*

Date: 2004-11-08 05:31 pm (UTC)He may have just done it for the moment. Invited her down to the motel for a night of great sex, because it would make them both happy, and it would certainly beat the hell out of "20 years of unrequited foreplay." But in doing so, he may also have abandoned any attempt to have a relationship with her. Well, not abandoned. Resigned himself to the fact that nothing was going to happen beyond the sex. God, what a depressing line of thought.

Date: 2004-11-08 05:59 pm (UTC)That's the other thing that irritates me. Ignoring Lori for a moment, the females on the show only have a purpose if they're connected to Alan. Notice how Sally makes a cameo appearance. Tara used to only make cameo appearances - if that - but now that she's Alan's flavor of the week, she has a purpose. If Alan ends it with Tara, we'll rarely see her on the show. That is a depressing line of thought.
I think they'll play with the storyline though. If they play with it, it will go either very wonderful or very horrible - there's not an in between in this case. Though, if he could keep up a relationship with Sally, there's potential... I've got to locate my spoiler source soon.

Date: 2004-11-08 06:10 pm (UTC)And the show honestly has no structure. Right now I'm too tired to even go into it.
I'm glad Alan's threatening to quit next episode. That will at least shake things up, because there's honestly been no progression whatsoever within the firm.
Besides Denny learning how to use a computer.
