3pipeproblem

Well, yesterday I went to my...great aunt and uncle? That sounds about right. I went to their 50th wedding anniversary. I'd been dreading this, since it required going out and purchasing new clothes (harken to Thoreau!) and it didn't help that my mom kept tossing the phrase "command performance" around when that was clearly not the case, since my cousin got out of it because he "needed to go to the city."

But! I had forgotten that I am now of the drinking age. I met practically nobody, which was awesome, and then my uncle took it upon himself to introduce me to the joys of single malt scotch. On the rocks, which is, I know, barbaric, but I wasn't in any position to object. To make a long story short, I ended up puking during one of a long succession of toasts. Nobody noticed (at this point I was at a table consisting of no one but my family in the far corner of the room) until I asked for napkins, which probably speaks volumes about my family. Were they all paying attention to the person giving the toast? Who does that? Anyway, my new shirt survived and fortunately I'd gone with the black pants rather than the brown.

The highlight of the evening was my littlest cousin. As some sort of decorative thing, they'd placed these gold and white pebbles on every available surface (and into the candles) and she took it upon herself to collect all of them. At the end of the evening I go to leave and she has one of those carry-out containers filled with pebbles, some of them coated in wax because she'd spooned them out of the candles.

So. That's what's been going on.
