Date: 2006-12-12 01:37 am (UTC)Alan/Eugene OTP!!! (ok, that's not really BL)
This probably isn't unpopular, but after they first slept together, Alan and Tara shouldn't have started dating. They should've had an on-again/off-again thing.
Alan and Denny have a virtually perfect relationship as is and should under NO CIRCUMSTANCES have sex. Or any variation thereof.
Putting Alan in costumes, entertaining as it is, does, occasionally, get old.
I liked Garrett (although he didn't really have a place on the show).
Lori was hilarious!
Brad is highly amusing and has suppressed homicidal tendencies.
Um, I think the show should involve more actual law. Not a lot more, but still.
I wouldn't mind forgoing a balcony scene once in a (great) while.
The death of Alan's wife did not cause the majority of his emotional/psychological problems.
ALAN AND DENNY WOULD NEVER AND WILL NEVER HAVE SEX.
I've only seen this in fic a couple times, but Alan is not a sexual god/oracle of perfect wisdom.
Alan needs to hook up with an embittered crossdressing FBI Agent because they are clearly made for each otherAs for Holmes, I've never actually been in the fandom. I read it (for the first time) at such a young age that my opinions are more indiscriminate than unpopular.
I never even wondered wtf was up with all of Watson's wives.
Ahahaha, this is great. Holmes was probably--this sounds so wrong--my first exposure to the word "ejaculate," so I tend to think of it in the sense of "exclaim." Okay, that's not really an opinion.
The later stories were just as good as the earlier ones.
"The Dying Detective"--the one where Holmes rambles about oysters--is awesome
Uh, I dunno. I never really thought there was any great romantic potential between Holmes and Irene Adler.

Date: 2006-12-12 02:39 am (UTC)Yeah, I can't see Denny/Alan sexual either. The people who seem to actually want it to happen in fics make me go "....uh, what now?"
I agree on costumes, as well as, though you didn't mention it, him having mental 'problems' of some sort or another. I mean, not that I didn't enjoy any of it, but.... night terrors, clowns, word salad... Alan had a heck of a last season.
On another note, woah not everyone can be the best lawyer in the world?! I mean, shit, I know CP & S is supposed to be a very high-profile awesome firm, but it's kinda like one of the gripes I have with CSI-- everyone's a fucking genius. Literally. They're all "best in this" or "best in that." That's what seems to be the case with new, and extant, characters on BL. I dunno, maybe I'm just oversensitive on that note.
I agree on the law, disagree on the balcony (I wait for the balcony every ep, I truly do), agree on Alan's wife (just from what he said about her, he had his share of problems before they met), haven't read any Alan fic aside from yours
and totally agree on the topic of S'more.Holmes~
I kinda sorta ship Holmes/Watson anyways, when I envision Holmes having sex at all, so Irene = meh for me. I like her as a character in her own right but not as a romantic prospect for Holmes.
I didn't know there was a generally held opinion that the later stories were worse.
Mildly unpopular (maybe?) -- I'll read and give a chance to non-Doyle Holmes fic, like the Seven-Percent Solution, which I enjoyed, even if I don't take it to heart as part of the Canon.

Date: 2006-12-12 03:03 am (UTC)I ♥ vulnerable!Alan, but yeah, it got to be a bit much. I like the idea that he's so in control of himself most of the time that his subconscious has to ambush him, but...maybe if they'd spread it out over the first two seasons it wouldn't have been as difficult to take.
Hahahaha. Brad's not the best lawyer in the world! To be fair, even if the lawyers on BL are absurdly good/talented, they do make up for it by being extremely disfunctional emotionally. So it's not like there are any Mary Sues running around. I dunno, Sally wasn't the best lawyer ever and she got fired (and then returned as an excellent lawyer, but I digress), so maybe it is somewhat plausible that they're all that good. What would make a crappy lawyer interesting to watch? Maybe if they were good in one area but terrible in another (like Jerry for awhile) I'd be interested, but otherwise...I'm not really keen on watching someone who doesn't know what he's doing. Like, what, if they had a Neville Longbottom-ish character? (I adore Neville, by the way, so maybe it's workable).
I love the balcony scenes. I just don't like how every ep has to end with them at this point. They've done that for what, a season and a half now?
Mmmm, smores for all.Holmes:
I think there's an opinion that after Holmes "died" and Conan Doyle was encouraged to bring him back, the stories are much less consistent in quality. Although that's probably more critical than fannish.
Ahahaha, I tried to read the Seven-Percent Solution but it didn't hold my interest. I did see the movie, though. Read Chabon's The Final Solution! It's great!

Date: 2006-12-12 01:45 am (UTC)What I really don't like is slashing characters simply because certain actors play them. How does that make any sense to anyone? Unless they're just writing porn, of course, in which case characterization hardly matters. I hate out of character slash, basically, which in my undying optimism I'd like to think is a popular fannish opinion.
But probably not.
I'd kind of like to read a fic where you have these two characters and it's not that they're completely incompatible, but they get to the point of having sex and one of them's just like "Eh, you know, I'd rather not. Maybe if you'd asked me last Tuesday, things'd have been different." And nobody angsts about it, but it just doesn't happen.
Which is a pretty pointless story, but apparently I like those.
