3pipeproblem: (Bob Dylan is coming to steal your record)

List seven songs you are into right now. no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your summer. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to.

Cindy - Ola Podrida

I can't find the lyrics to this one anywhere, but near as I can tell, it's about a woman who burns down her house then runs back inside to save a library book because she can't afford any more late fees. It starts out soft and slow and gradually builds. I highly recommend it.

Atlantic City/Murray - Pete Yorn

I love "Atlantic City" (all [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce's fault). One day I will post all ten (?!?!) covers of it that I have. But the reason I'm really into this song is "Murray," which is a manic anthem to...God, I don't know. Hahaha, imdb says it's in Igby Goes Down, if that tells you anything.

This Time Tomorrow - The Kinks

Otherwise known as the song from The Darjeeling Limited's trailer.

Run the Red Light - British India

[livejournal.com profile] fence_post is responsible for this one. It's loud rock (as in, the lyrics are basically shouted at some points) but damn is it catchy.

Santa Clara - The National

Probably the exact opposite of Run the Red Light--slow and elegiac.

Smith & Jones Forever - Silver Jews

Another of those slow-building songs. This one has some fairly awesome lyrics, even if I'm unable to make sense of them. A (fairly coherent) excerpt:

I've got two tickets to a midnight execution.
We'll hitchhike our way from Odessa to Houston
and when they turn on the chair
something's added to the air
when they turn on the chair
something's added to the air forever

Plastic Jesus - Paul Newman

From Cool Hand Luke. It's Paul Newman! Singing! In Cool Hand Luke!

Okay, I tag [livejournal.com profile] deviousli, [livejournal.com profile] dien, [livejournal.com profile] bitterbyrden, [livejournal.com profile] lawrencered, [livejournal.com profile] moofoot and...anyone else who wants to.

Wow, I made you like Atlantic City? This must be a reference to some ancient thread about blowing up the Chicken Man and/or his house, yes?

Well, you're not directly responsible, but you are responsible for my listening to Bruce, so...there are a number of songs on my HD that are all your fault.

Although your Homicide ficlet involving a discussion of the song probably didn't help matters.

Hahahahahaha! I will spread the British India love! Seriously, that song is addictive.

Also, I stole the Paul Newman goodness as soon as I saw it because every time I watch Cool Hand Luke I think about trying to find a copy of that song to download and now I have it! Yay!

I didn't find the other BI song as catchy, sadly. But "Run the Red Light" is awesome.

I stumbled across it just recently. I'd been looking for it for ages as well and I was very pleased.

Also, I've been loving your music posts! (Which is why you weren't tagged--it seemed redundant). I steal everything, even though I never comment. I'm lame like that.

I'm addicted to reccing music. I keep making lists in my head of songs I must share. I definitely have more BI to rec. 'Run The Red Light' is easily my favourite song of theirs, but I paid actual money for their album which is something I haven't done for ages and it was money well spent.

Also, I found a copy of Jack Johnson covering 'Plastic Jesus'. Not as good as Paul Newman but very listenable.

oh oh I didn't notice I was tagged because today is the first day in two weeks that I've been adventurous enough to read the f-page. (but how am I seeing this now, you ask? quite simply, stalking.)
I'm also ashamed to say that I haven't listened to any of your songs. So I'm going to download them and then do this meme. Yay : D

Oh, you're under no obligation to dl and listen (or do the meme, for that matter), but they are awesome songs. In my oh-so-humble opinion.

But if you do decide to play, I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
