3pipeproblem: (laugh)
I'm still feeling a bit under the weather (A lot of that has to do with my room and how dusty it is. Note to self: get out more.) but I did manage to get nine hours of sleep last night. So I'm not tired, for the first time in like a week. I wish fall break were this weekend, but what can you do?

And of course I have loads of homework. But it's nice homework, like reading Ulysses ("Me. And me now." <3 Bloom! And I do believe my male prof does as well!) and editing my essay about why Philadelphia sucks. Well, sorta. I got an A on the paper I BSed about prisons, which was nice. We also discussed Oz in class. My professor watches it, but only because her husband is obsessed. She doesn't like it. Odd. I did get in some comments at the expense of season 6, which I'm sure no one understood.

I think the Philo presentation went well. Up until the last minute, I was feeling so shitty I was considering not going, but I'm glad I did. I totally winged my speech about Todd Haynes, but I think there were some good points. For one, the subject matter is very interesting, especially when compared with the subjects of some of the speeches (media manipulation and why Howard Dean will win the primary? excuse me while I go locate a gun with which to shoot myself), and I knew a lot about it. So the only question that stumped me concerned Fellini, since I've never seen one of his films. I remembered about two hours later (when I was still at Philo) that he invented the "mockumentary" *facepalm* And a lot of people came up to me afterwards and asked about Far From Heaven and Poison, so at the very least there's a heightened awareness about Todd Haynes. Yay! (And his next film is called I'm Not There: Suppositions on a Film Concerning Dylan. Todd Haynes? Bob Dylan? Interesting. Especially since every Haynes film up to this point has had either a gay character or a metaphorically gay character. But it should be cool, especially given Haynes' penchant for mercilessly mocking genres.)

I talked with this grad student (who gave an amazing presentation on Filipino fighting techniques) who wants to make a documentary about the Vietnam War. He's only got one guy who's willing to talk to him so far, but it was fascinating stuff. He was really cool. Reminded me somewhat of Matt Blocker.

And then at the second half of the meeting everyone was drunk and yelling and making Benny Hill and Eddie Izzard references and it was great. Although I did slip out at midnight, just in case there was some mad RPing going on. Which, sadly, there wasn't. Oh well.

I really hope I get into Philo, although if I don't I can still attend everything. I'd just like to feel like I'm a part of something on campus. And I'd get a key (I will not reference Ulysses here. I promise.) And their library lacks Ulysses. Or any Holmes books. Yet it has The Book That Must Not Be Named. What's up with that?

Side note: One day I will write something for the LXG section of ff.net and the summary will make reference to "a certain traitor." And it will turn out to be Judas. Or Iago. Or *snerk* Frank.

"You betrayed me."
"Did I? Sorry."

Too bad I'm too classy to rob lines from The Practice. Otherwise Frank would be saying that in a fic.

Right, so I was going to read Ulysses (Lestrygonians! Bloom angst!), but I got a little sidetracked and decided to try to work out a cast for a film version. The problem being, I don't know all that many Irish actors. Right now I've got Gabriel Byrne for Bloom, and I think he could pull it off, except that he's too damn hot (this is the last time you'll ever hear me say that, rest assured). But now I'm looking for some Bloomish pics of him, which I will hotlink because my FTP hates me.

And another problem: his screen presence. You can tell from his pictures that he'd dominate (no jokes, please) every scene.

EDIT: And now I'm back to wanting to slash Verbal and Keaton. Oh dear.
