However, I must say...I liked Superbad more than Juno.

See, in the books, there's this shadowy not-entirely-good, not-entirely-bad organization called the VFD. All of its members employ not-terribly-convincing disguises, quote works of literature and communicate using variations on famous works of poetry, and sport this tattoo:



Naturally, I decided Alan must be a member. Despite the fact that he would never consent to getting a tattoo.

I'm also proud of the icon's comment section, which is from ASoUE: "It is always cruel to laugh at people, of course, although sometimes if they are wearing an ugly hat it is hard to control yourself."

I don't know about class. I'm pretty sure I wore oversized pants and a t-shirt to all the showings and got the student rate under false pretenses (tickets are so expensive, though! at least There Will Be Blood was a good 2 and a half hours long). And there's nothing that says the rest of your friends can't be classy pornographers with good taste.

Hahahaha, my Tuesdays are booked. 2-3 hours of Boston Legal anticipation, the show itself, and then 2-3 hours of post-BL euphoria. What'd you think of this week's ep, by the way?

Ooh...I really don't like to leave anti-squee, especially not in other people's journal's, so I'll just say that I was sorry that Alan's insights on men's involvement with family and fatherhood didn't get more play. The balcony revelation is all sorts of yummy fodder for all sorts of things!

But I found it...dichotomous how he could give that speech about having no voice and feeling invisible in such a momentous decision and then try to bludgeon Missy into a court-order against her will. It seemed unlike him to not even try to find a better third alternative.

I did very much like the juxtaposition of cases impregnation vs. hug--which carries the love. Which carries the intimacy? Which is right or wrong? Which is a violation? Which wins in a court of law? That's what I loved about the first two seasons.

Hahahaha, I don't mind anti-squee at all. I'm totally capable of loving the hell out of a show and criticizing it at the same time.

Yeah, I really liked Alan in this one (not that I ever don't like him, but you know what I mean). It was nice to see him invested in the case for personal reasons rather than because of his ideals or his desire to piss off/spend time with (they go hand-in-hand) Shirley. And even before the balcony revelation, I think it was apparent--by the way he interacted with the client, his indignation in court--that he had a personal stake in it.

Yes. I agree there, too. This was the sort of case where The Practice-era Alan would've resorted to taking some extralegal measure to remedy the problem, but then again, Terrence did say at the end that he wasn't sure he wanted to force Missy to have an abortion, so maybe this was the best solution. If they'd won, I certainly hope Alan would've given more thought to the implications of their dragging the case to the Supreme Court.

I liked that as well. Hahahaha, I don't think it's something Boston Legal does all that often (or maybe I'm too smitten with Alan to notice).

Also, OMG Katie's hair and wardrobe. Thank you for pointing this out. Something about her was irritating me and I couldn't put my finger on it. It was the hair.

A lot of the episode felt rushed. In Katie and Jerry's case, the questioning of the witnesses was very abrupt, and the scene Alan had with Terrence right before the judge ruled was extremely short, and looked as though it'd had the end of it lopped off in the editing room.

Woo! That is totally totally bizarre. And damn, I still need to see Michael Clayton. Juno seems like a strange pick to me for Best Picture, but I've never pretended to understand the Academy and I really shouldn't now.

Clearly we can never see more than five movies a year now. Alas.

Michael Clayton was really good, though it felt like they deliberately messed with the structure to make it more interesting (though a lot of movies do that, so I'm not sure it's even a valid complaint). George Clooney plays a pseudo-legal badass (I think he could practice law, but his firm instead has him running around intimidating people and cleaning up messes) and Tom Wilkinson is awesome, as always.

Juno's nomination is the Academy's way of saying it misses Arrested Development. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Oh, ugh. I hate diet soda to begin with and I can only imagine what that tastes like. Hahahaha, did you try the berries n' cream when it was around?
