I'm going to be an editorial assistant at a children's magazine (out of paranoia, I'm going to refrain from mentioning it by name in a public post). I'll have to do some tedious office work--filing and routine correspondence--but I'll also get to read and evaluate submissions.
Hahaha, and I interviewed with practically everyone who works there, and they all seem awesome.
It's kind of a funny story, actually. I nearly didn't apply at all, but I decided to send it in on the day it was due. I had to work at Starbucks starting at six, so in the morning I sat down to write my cover letter, and...the power went out. Well, okay. I have my spiffy new laptop with nine hours of battery life, so I got the letter done, but without power we had no internet and I had no way of sending the thing.
Backtracking a little, I share a car with my sister, and she's conditioned me to never put any more gas in the thing than I know I'll use. This normally isn't a problem, since there are two gas stations literally two blocks away from our house. Well, as you've probably guessed, the car barely had enough gas for me to verify that the power was out there, too. So I have this cover letter written and I'm freaking out because I have no way to get to work and no way to send it. I almost rode my bike (with my laptop) to the library and then to work (which ended at 10:15, so I would've been biking home in the dark with my laptop), but fortunately my mom showed up in her car. And that's how--after she drove me to the library--I sent in my cover letter and resume at pretty much 5:00 on the final day they were accepting applications.
Just in time, too--Starbucks extended their hours so we're open from 5am-10pm Sunday-Thursday and 5am-11pm Friday and Saturday. Nobody comes in the store after 7.
That sucks. I remember when Pottery Barn did something like that. It was a complete waste of time and payroll. Are you still there on the weekends or have you fully quit?
By the way... I need an address where your dad lives since apparently the post office claims he doesn't live at the one his girlfriend gave me!
I'm working the next three weeks--well, it's more like two now--and then I'll have quit. There's other part-time stuff I can do for a lot more money, and I won't need the benefits anymore. Plus, the last time SB extended its hours, everyone was like "Oh, they'll realize how ludicrous this is and change them back." Never happened.
AHAHAHAHA, I almost posted it here. I'll email you.
