I didn't want to update until I got my mood icons working again. Those white boxes with the xs in them just irk me, y'know?
Well, I haven't really had much time to enjoy being here. My parents drove down with me, and believe me, spending 14 hours in the car with two soon-to-be-divorced people is not fun. At all. Especially since my mom kept getting huffy about everything, culminating in her yelling at me for changing channels when she was watching Seinfeld (this was at the hotel). I had to go for about a day and a half without internet, which was no fun at all. On the other hand, I got to watch Primal Fear and "Once More, With Feeling" in the car. It is nearly impossible to make decent screencaps of Richard Gere! He keeps closing his eyes!
Anyway, we moved in. I get cable now. Well, I got cable before, but I was too lazy to hook it up. Now I'm too lazy to figure out what time The Daily Show is on. My roommates had all moved in before me, so I have the small room at the end of the hall. It's slightly larger than a prison cell, but I've got all my stuff (including 2 drawers of movies) here, so I like it. And I finally have a place to put my Seabiscuit poster! It's right above my desk! Speaking of Seabiscuit, there's a movie theater about a block away. It's really fancy, serving sushi and all. And get this: you have to reserve your seats. So if you want to sit next to someone, you have to call and reserve to seats next to each other. They have midnight showings, too, which is cool, but I don't know if I should be out that late without a kung fu master at my side.
My roommates are nice. One is from Mexico and one is from El Salvador, so they aren't really hip to the scene in the US (no doubt my amazing slang will stun them). The other is from Brooklyn (her name is Susie). She's very talkative and open, which is nice, because that helps to get conversations started and stuff. None of them seem to be into film as much as I am (I guess they all have *gasp* lives), so I'm going to try to find some hardcore film junkies at some point. Or at least a Chris Cooper movie.
I have determined that I need a job, in order to keep up with random expenses and banking and all that stuff that's driving me insane. I'm going to stop by video stores today (well, that's the plan anyway) and pick up applications. I'd like to work at a Center Video-esque place, somewhere flexible where I can talk about movies with the customers that aren't assholes.
That's about it for now. A lot of the orientation activities are booooring. And we have no AC in our college house, although we do have a $4500 TV.
