3pipeproblem: (xtreme)
I got my laptop UPS yesterday and I must say, it's a marvelous bit of machinery. It plays DVDs and has a little chip where it can connect to wireless anywhere. I daresay I could go on the internet from the car. I named it Toby (they wanted a name for networking purposes). It's very small, smaller than my dad's laptop, but it rocks.

Thinking about how much I love my laptop made me think about something else I love: my (dad's) car. First of all, it's a 1987 Volvo, so it never dies. It has--let me go check--182,000 miles on it. Our old Volvo had something like 300,000. The gas gauge doesn't work, so whenever I fill up the tank I have to reset the thing that keeps track of trip mileage; I refill at 250. Of course, I'm usually too cheap to fill the tank all the way, so it devolves into weird fractions work and half the time I just have to have faith that there's gas in the car. Unfortunately, the turbo on the car is broken forever. The other Volvo was in permanent overdrive, which was sweetness. It has really bad acceleration, so I have to make up for it by being ready to go at stoplights (you wait for the other light to turn yellow, then put your right foot on the gas while the left is on the brake). The oil used to leak, which was rather nice, because I never had to check the oil. I just assumed the car needed it and was right. Another lovely feature: it has a radio. The other Volvo's radio didn't work. I love driving around in my car! It's badass.

"You can have the best time in a car. It's not about getting somewhere. You have to take your time. Forget about everything. Just relax. Let it wash over you. The air, motion. Just let it roll."

Riley had to be the one to say it.

Insanity

I found this thing that interprets (ie jumbles around random words) your livejournal (it only works for paid accounts, though, sorry). Here's the first interpretation:

Well, fuck you know you're Basil Hallward. Although if mentally if they get something accomplished at work. The movie. Slash readers and we were having a wonderful way with Lee Tergesen Chris Meloni, although if you also have put in reading the hell When you down although you believe that was incredibly insane. It's true, you feel that work.

Here's the link. It'll go to mine, but I'm sure you'll figure out how to do your own LJ.
"Slash readers and we were having a wonderful way with Lee Tergesen Chris Meloni." Amazing!

When Keller tells Beecher he doesn't give a shit who Beecher fucks, Beecher proceeds to fuck some random guy. Keller kills the guy. When the boys get around to discussing this, Beecher points out that Keller said he didn't care.

Keller gives him this look. It's like disgust, "you've gotta be kidding me," and "duh!" all rolled into one. Actually, it's more just "duh!" He says, "I lied" like it was the most obvious thing in the world. And it kinda was.

Well, I went dorm shopping today. Ended up with a comforter/duvet (someone please explain the difference) that was blue and had old school cars with surfboards on it. I don't know why, and it's not like it really matters. I brought Toby along and watched Back to the Future in the car, which was novel. My mom kept trying to peek at it while driving, though.

Otherwise, I have done nothing today. I downloaded Kazaa and proceeded to spend like two hours downloading U2's cover of "All Along the Watchtower," which is nowhere as good as the original. How disappointing. I compiled a list of Beecher/Keller song recommendations and am currently downloading them. Hopefully I won't be arrested anytime soon.

I finished 5x2 of Oz, except I apparently stopped at the episode's zenith. Everything afterwards involved Cloutier, and boy, was it stupid. But Keller's in 5x3!

I watched Hearts in Atlantis last night (of course, I decided to start watching it at 10 so I wasn't done till midnight). I'd seen it before, and it improved on the second viewing. Not that it needed to, because I thought it was amazing on the first. You're probably assuming that it's all about Anthony Hopkins being this persecuted psychic guy on the run, because that's how they marketed it. That's not what it's about at all. It's a coming of age story, along the lines of Stand by Me but less humorous and more...lyrical, I guess. It's mainly about this young boy's realtionship with Anthony Hopkins' character, and how he grows up because of it. I just love the way the thing is shot. It starts out with the older version of the boy, and the movie is all gray and rainy. Then it flashes back and everything is brighter, and just a little blurry around the edges. It's a very nostalgic movie. It's also very powerful. Why aren't there any movies like this out right now? I mean, I could go see Whale Rider, but I'm cheap.

Hmmm, U2 altered the lyrics to "Watchtower." Not a wise decision, I'm afraid.

I don't have much else to say. I have a water polo tournament this weekend. On the one hand, it's something to do. On the other hand, I don't want to spend all my time at the pool.
