How great is my car? VERY great!
Jul. 18th, 2003 08:53 amI got my laptop UPS yesterday and I must say, it's a marvelous bit of machinery. It plays DVDs and has a little chip where it can connect to wireless anywhere. I daresay I could go on the internet from the car. I named it Toby (they wanted a name for networking purposes). It's very small, smaller than my dad's laptop, but it rocks.
Thinking about how much I love my laptop made me think about something else I love: my (dad's) car. First of all, it's a 1987 Volvo, so it never dies. It has--let me go check--182,000 miles on it. Our old Volvo had something like 300,000. The gas gauge doesn't work, so whenever I fill up the tank I have to reset the thing that keeps track of trip mileage; I refill at 250. Of course, I'm usually too cheap to fill the tank all the way, so it devolves into weird fractions work and half the time I just have to have faith that there's gas in the car. Unfortunately, the turbo on the car is broken forever. The other Volvo was in permanent overdrive, which was sweetness. It has really bad acceleration, so I have to make up for it by being ready to go at stoplights (you wait for the other light to turn yellow, then put your right foot on the gas while the left is on the brake). The oil used to leak, which was rather nice, because I never had to check the oil. I just assumed the car needed it and was right. Another lovely feature: it has a radio. The other Volvo's radio didn't work. I love driving around in my car! It's badass.
"You can have the best time in a car. It's not about getting somewhere. You have to take your time. Forget about everything. Just relax. Let it wash over you. The air, motion. Just let it roll."
Riley had to be the one to say it.
